10 Little Known Cleaning Hacks

The Fairbanks Cleaning Company

  1. Clean your microwave with vinegar and water: Mix one cup of water and one cup of vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl, microwave on high for five minutes, then wipe away any stains or debris with a cloth.

  2. Use a squeegee to remove pet hair from carpets: Use a squeegee to remove pet hair from carpets by dragging it across the surface of the carpet in a sweeping motion. The rubber surface of the squeegee will attract and pick up hair and debris.

  3. Clean your shower head with vinegar: Fill a plastic bag with vinegar, place it over your shower head, and secure it with a rubber band. Let it sit overnight, then remove the bag and run the shower head to rinse away any debris.

  4. Use a toothbrush to clean small spaces: Use an old toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach areas like grout, small crevices, and corners.

  5. Use a microfiber cloth to clean windows: Use a microfiber cloth instead of newspaper or paper towels to clean windows. Microfiber cloths are more effective at removing streaks and dirt.

  6. Clean your oven with baking soda and vinegar: Sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of your oven, then spray it with vinegar. Let it sit for a few hours, then wipe away any debris with a damp cloth.

  7. Clean your dishwasher with vinegar: Place a cup of vinegar in the top rack of your dishwasher and run it on the hottest cycle to remove any buildup or residue.

  8. Use a fabric softener sheet to clean baseboards: Run a fabric softener sheet over your baseboards to remove dirt and debris, and to repel dust in the future.

  9. Use a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to clean grout: Make a paste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, apply it to your grout, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with a toothbrush and rinse away.

  10. Use a lint roller to clean lampshades: Roll a lint roller over your lampshades to easily remove dust and debris.
